June 10th
We arrived at Donavan’s Shady Harbor Marina in New
Baltimore, NY on Friday, June 7th. Kathy and Brian Donavan own the
marina and host an annual weekend that includes a “Pig Roast” on Sunday
afternoon. This year, the guest of honor weighed in at 225 lbs. There were 39
Looper boats staying in the marina for the weekend. We already knew many of the Loopers, having
met them previously, but also made some new “Looper Friends” over the weekend.
Friday evening we joined our friends Donna and Gary
(L’Attitude Adjustment) and a couple we had not met before, Richard and Melaney
( Jewel) for dinner. The food was very good and the company better!
Saturday night we ate at the restaurant at the marina again,
this time with Richard, Melaney and their daughter, Lindsey who just graduated
from USF and another couple Donna and John (Paradise Bound). After dinner there was a bonfire to cap off
the day.
Sunday started with a women’s group where we shared mimosas
and stories and tips for living on a boat for a year or more. The men, who
weren’t invited, joked that it was probably the “men haters club” for dragging
us on The Loop.
At 4 PM we gathered on the lawn and pool area for the Pig
Roast. Everyone brought a dish or dessert to share. The “pig” was actually
good. It tasted like a very moist pork roast. Our group, (The Next Chapter,
Lattitude Adjustment, Detour, Jewel), sat together at a picnic table and soon
drew a lot of attention and recognition for being and having the most fun.
IMAGINE THAT!!
By 7 PM we were stuffed and tired. Recognizing that we were all getting up early
to head to our next destination, we said goodbye to our Looper friends expressing
our hopes we would all meet up soon at another marina.
This morning we cruised to the Albany Yacht Club where we
will leave the boat for 2 weeks while we fly to see kids, grandkids and great
grandkids and enjoy sleeping in “real” beds and showering in “real” walk-in
showers. Before we leave, my brother and sister-in-law are driving down from
Lake Champlain to spend the day with us on Wednesday which I am looking forward
to very much.
That Pig Roast looks awesome.
