On May 25th our plan was to leave Cape May around 7 AM and cruise to Atlantic City. We awoke to a dense fog that had encapsulated the whole marina. We decided to wait until the fog lifted before heading out into the Atlantic Ocean.  By 8:15 the fog had thinned in the marina so we figured it was going to continue to lift. As we got out into the Atlantic we realized it was not going anywhere fast. Thank goodness for radar! We could barely see beyond the bow of the boat, fortunately radar shows us where any boats are around us to include their wakes and ours


After about 2 hours the fog lifted enough to reduce my anxiety level and by the time we were nearing Atlantic City we could see the outlines of the casinos and hotels along the beach.


We arrived safely at the Farley State Marina which is also the site of the Golden Nugget casino. The marina was not near the Board Walk or the big casinos and hotels so the next day we walked 2,5 miles to the Board Walk and then another 2.5 miles on it. It was as tacky as I remember it being as a kid but the Jersey Shore still has the softest white sand I have ever seen




 The good part of about being in Atlantic City is we met up with several other Looper friends and met several more. So what do Loopers do, we met for docktails. It was quite the group.

 



There being nothing much that interested us in Atlantic City, we were eager for the next "good" weather day to arrive so we could head back out into the Atlantic and cruise to Manasquan, NJ. Actually, Hoffman's Marina is in Brielle, NJ just next to Manasquan. We had a great travel day with clear skies and calm water.

 



    
    
Brielle is a sweet town with beautiful home, lawns and gardens 



There are also many nice restaurants within walking distance but one we found was exceptional for it's fun spirit as well as good food. It is called "The Pig and a Parrot"



Tomorrow promises to be a good weather day so we will head out into the Atlantic and cruise to the Hudson River past the Statue of Liberty and into Liberty Landing Marina which is supposed to be a great marina on the New Jersey side directly across the Hudson from Manhattan. We will be meeting up with some of our Looper friends and already have plans to join them for dinner.

43 cruising days
1770 miles 
210 hours of motoring
an average of 5 hrs per travel day
at an average of 8.4 MPH

 25 Days until we set off --stay tuned for updates! March 4th, 2024 Well our planning, packing and provisioning are complete, We moved onto the boat last night and cruise to Sarasota this morning for our first stop on our 10 month cruise of the Great Loop.   March 5, 2024 We had another beautiful day on the water.  May 2nd We arrived in Coinjock on Sunday, 4/28 after buddy boating with L'Attitude Adjustment. It is a small marina located on the intracoastal waterway on our way to Norfolk. We were soon joined by our friends on Bapardi. Coinjock is famous for their restaurant that proudly serves 32 oz ribeye steaks. So, of course, we immediately made reservations for the 6 of us. On Tuesday we headed up to Norfolk. It was a beautiful tree lined part of the intracoastal. Norfolk was quite an impressive site as we entered the port which is a base for Naval vessels. After we docked at the Waterside Marina our day turned negative. While I was engaged in the routine of connecting the boat to the water system, I slipped on the dock and in an attempt to break my fall I broke my wrist!  Although I was hoping that it was only a bad sprain, it became evident that a fracture was more likely so off we went in an Uber to the emergency department at Sentara General Hospital.   June 10 th We arrived at Donavan’s Shady Harbor Marina in New Baltimore, NY on Friday, June 7 th . Kathy and Brian Donavan own the marina and host an annual weekend that includes a “Pig Roast” on Sunday afternoon. This year, the guest of honor weighed in at 225 lbs. There were 39 Looper boats staying in the marina for the weekend.   We already knew many of the Loopers, having met them previously, but also made some new “Looper Friends” over the weekend. Friday evening we joined our friends Donna and Gary (L’Attitude Adjustment) and a couple we had not met before, Richard and Melaney ( Jewel) for dinner. The food was very good and the company better! Saturday night we ate at the restaurant at the marina again, this time with Richard, Melaney and their daughter, Lindsey who just graduated from USF and another couple Donna and John (Paradise Bound).   After dinner there was a bonfire to cap off the day.
